Heart on a Chain by Cindy. C .Bennett

Individual people are passionate towards different things. I'm passionate about books and putting a stop to Domestic Abuse. This book hits a nerve that resounds throughout my body and awakens such strong emotion in me.

It opens everyone's eyes to what possibilities may be going on around us, it just makes us that much more aware of what we are saying and how it could affect a sensitive soul. I'm sure Kate's story has touched many people's hearts and not only that but it's given people hope. Hope that one day they will be safe from the abuse. It may inspire the courage to ask for help.

I've read so many books but only a special few can touch my heart as this one does, when I cried at the words in this book they meant so much more than sadness, they were for her, they were for Kate. She may only be a character in a book but I felt as if I knew her and I wanted so much to climb inside the book and comfort her.

Henry is such a wonderful young man, he's so sensitive. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he when he loves he does it intensely. I would, just as many other girls love to have a boy like that in my life. But unfortunately that is not the case in reality.

The book...

Kate Mosley was just like any other child, she was happy, loved and care free just as she should have been. She had a best friend call Henry Jamison in Elementary School. But Everything changed. Henry moved away and her parents became cold and didn't love her as they should.

Years later she's in High School and Henry has moved back and she's nothing like the care free girl she once was. She's always quiet and is the school's favorite bullying victim. Kate has no friends and is mortified when Henry returns. He probably thinks she's a scruff too. He'll start bullying her too. So she tries to run from him.

But Kate is wrong, Henry wants to befriend her. He's completely bemused at her blatant need to get away from him. He's completely confused. He's not sure what has happened to her whilst he has been gone. As he fits into High School it becomes obvious to him that Kate is everyone's favorite bullying victim and it enrages him. He realizes he must be cautious were Kate is concerned and tries to befriend her.

As they get closer to one another Henry learns Kate's painful secret she's been keeping from him and he vows to do whatever he must to keep her safe. But Kate is stubborn and that stubbornness may be the one thing that takes her from Henry.

I rate this book 5 stars and recommend any reader to read this.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

I absolutely adore this book, I never would have read it however had I not seen the movie adaptation and can I say while the movie was fantastic, the book was absolutely brilliant! I love the whole camp Halfblood and the awesomely dangerous quests they undertake. This book has made Greek Mythology much more simpler to understand too. I never realized how much the Gods got their groove on, I mean seriously how many children do they need? Jeez!

Plus I think the Gods can be so self centered, I don't particularly like Hermes for instance. He obviously doesn't care one bit about any of his children. I love Percy. I guess some people can relate to him. Got a crap step dad, a dad that's never there, getting bullied, not fitting in, different. Obviously there's a big difference between him and us since he is a Demi-God and his dad is none other than Poseidon himself.

This book gives out good vibes too. It teaches us that good can overcome evil and that no matter how we're different we always belong somewhere and whatever makes us different can be our strength. I enjoyed how fast paced this book is, usually books take forever getting to the point and before I know it my interest has disappeared and I the book finds itself discarded. This book is nothing like that, it gets straight to the point, something exciting happens in every chapter and has me gasping. I highly anticipated every page and hated the fact that with every page I read the closer I came to the end. I didn't want it to end.

So the book...

Percy Jackson lives with his mom and his step father. Percy hasn't had the best childhood, he's been kicked out of countless schools due to ADHD and he's got Dyslexia plus his dad left him and his mom when he was a baby. Right now he goes to Yancy Academy which is supposed to be for people with his 'needs' if you will. He has his first real best friend Grover who seems to have a disability with his legs which make him dependent on crutches.

One day Percy goes on a school trip to a Greek museum and is completely scared out of his wits when a teacher transforms into a Fury and accuses him of stealing 'The Lightning Bolt' before he is saved by Mr Brunner who threatens the monster with bodily harm even though he's in a wheelchair.

Little does Percy know he's about to be thrown into a strange chaotic life where he finds out nothing is as he thought. He's a Demi-God, half-human half-God and he's also the son of one of the 'Big Three' which are Hades, Zeus and Poseidon.

Percy gets sent to camp Halfblood where there are other Demi-Gods where he meets Luke the son of Hermes and Annabeth daughter of Athena. Turns out Mr Brunner isn't a teacher but he's Chiron the famous Centaur of myth and Grover is a Satyr and his protector.

At an event Percy's father claims him and lets everyone know exactly whose son he is and 'The Lightning Bolt' he's been accused of stealing is none other than Zeus'. Percy must embark on a quest to find the Lightning Bolt and prove his innocence or a war shall break free like none other ever witnessed before.

As he, Annabeth and Grover embark on this quest they are challenged with great dangers involving intoxicating flowers and a scary woman with a fetish of turning people into stone.

Percy will find out just how far betrayal can go and how deceitful the Gods can be in this thrilling story as a powerful Demi-God finding out exactly who he is.

I would recommend this book to anyone with even a slight interest in Greek Mythology and if you love a fun book then I would guarantee you'll love this one. I rate this book 5 stars!

The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

This book is 100% awesomeness. You remember the tale of Pandora's Box and all the horrid things that were locked inside it? Well they play a BIG part in this series. We're all told that Demons are just evil with no goodness whatsoever. This book makes me question that. There are times when a demon is protective and possessive and personally I'm pretty sure that them being evil is supposed to exclude protectiveness and possessiveness so they can't all possibly be evil.

Not only are they capable of protectiveness but they are also capable of love. A demon that feels love, that in my opinion is wicked cool. I read this book and then I re-read it again. And again. And again. And you get my drift. If sexy protective demon-possessed warriors who will do anything to protect the woman they love the most appeal to you then this is soooooo the book for you.

I'll tell you a little about it...

So Maddox is a warrior. Possessed by the demon of Violence. Him along with fellow possessed-warriors are looking for Pandora's Box. One night he comes into contact with Ashlyn, a strange mortal woman with a gift. She can hear voices. Unless she's around Maddox, then she hears blissful silence.

Maddox believes Ashlyn is bait, something to lure him and other warriors astray so that hunters can kill them. Hunters are humans who know of their existence and are trying to exterminate them. Ashlyn of course has no idea what he is talking about.

Ashlyn is treated with suspicion and is not treated fairly. She consumes some Ambrosia which is deadly to humans and almost dies. When Maddox finds Ashlyn on the verge of death he realises his strong feelings for her are more than just chemistry. He wants her. He needs her.

As they fall in love, something comes to light. Maybe Ashlyn did not meet Maddox by coincidence. As things begin to unfold a new danger comes to light, threatening to take Ashlyn from Maddox once again. Can he protect her or will he lose the one thing that's precious to him?

Read The Darkest Night, the first book in the Lord of the Underworld series. It's worth the read.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I would recommend reading this. It gives a completely different views on mythical vampires. In this book they're not conveyed as soulless evil creatures of the night. However just like us humans there are some evil vampires and some good, well depending on your own view. This is the first book on vampires to ever hold onto my interest and concentration, it has everything I enjoy in a book. It has danger, suspense and obviously love which most teenage girls crave in a good book.

If you simply only enjoy gory blood sucking vampires I would recommend you don't read this book as most the vampires in this book are nothing of the sort. In fact most of the myths have been re-designed as the author sees. They can walk in sunlight, garlic and stakes are not deadly to them. However they do crave blood to soothe their appetite and of course have inhuman capabilities such as powerful strength, hearing, smell and sight.

I couldn't put Twilight down for even a second, I simply had to finish it as quickly as my eyes would allow. I seemed almost thirsty for the next page. I would say that I was captivated by this book because it's like my own fantasy as I'm sure other girls have. I mean, who doesn't want to be loved unconditionally by a beautiful vampire who is worthy enough to be an angel and would protect you without even a second's thought?

So lets get to the actually story....

Bella Swan is going to live with her dad, Charlie who she hasn't seen in years. When she gets there she realizes not much has changed. The weather still sucked, it was cold and raining and her dad still dines at his favorite diner. However her childhood friend Jacob Black has grown, obviously, and he's still pretty friendly.

Bella has to go to a new school whilst living there and on her first day she meets some new friends who are a bit crazy. There's Eric, Mike, Jessica and Angela. Whilst in the cafeteria at dinner Bella gets her first glimpse at 'The Cullens' who are amazingly beautiful. Bella only really has eyes for one of them, Edward Cullen and yes you guessed it, they're vampires.

In class Bella is placed in the only remaining place which happens to be next to Edward and needless to say she's pleased. That is until she notices his reaction to her. He makes it known he can smell something quite unpleasant which makes Bella think she stinks and not in a good way.

So after that class Edward disappears from school for a while leaving Bella wondering and confused. When he returns he tries to make amends. Bella's curiosity leads her to finding out just exactly what Edward is and instead of fearing him she just wants to be near him. As they fall deeper in love, a storm brews. Literally.

Remember when I mentioned the evil vampires? Well they got some heading their way. Whilst out on a date 'The Cullens' along with Bella are confronted by some vampires who's tastes are quite attuned to human blood. Specifically Bella's.

In a plan to protect Bella and her father she is split up from Edward to flee. Unfortunately Bella has an uncanny ability for getting herself into dangerous situations. This one may cost her her life.

Find out what happens and read Twilight now! Already got it? Get New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn now!!! I definitely rate it 5 stars! It's worth the read.

Existence by Abbi Glines

Pagan Moore is your average teenage girl. She has two best friends called Miranda and Wyatt and lives with her mom. Well that's about as average as she gets because you see, Pagan can dead people. Not like in the "Sixth Sense". They're more like lost souls wandering around and they never speak. She tries her best to act as if she can't see them or she just draws more attention to herself.

That works pretty well until one day a certain soul talks to her, she does her best to act as if she can't hear him but somehow he knows she can see him. She wants to know what he wants but he won't tell her why he's around and seems just as confused as her as to why she can see souls.

Pagan ends up being a mentor for Leif, the most popular a good looking boy in her year at school. Well everyone seems to think so apart from her. Pagan has no interest in boys and definitely has no interest in Leif, in fact she has her own views on him which include over confidence and arrogance. So it's fair to say that Pagan is not very happy about this situation.

When she lets her views be known to Leif he seems quite shocked and hurt at her outburst. She goes home only to be scolded by her mom because of her coldness at Leif's situation and also learns that he is dyslexic which is why he needs her help. The next day she apologizes and does her best to make amends which Leif is only too happy to do.

Throughout helping Leif, Pagan becomes closer to him and actually does some of his work when he doesn't turn up to one of his sessions only to find out he was with Kendra, his ex. Feeling embarassed and used she storms out of the cafeteria in school. Before she leaves the school the soul who she knows as Dank does his best to persuade her to stay, practically pleading with her.

Of course she ignores him and leaves, getting into her car to go home. Only that doesn't happen. She ends up being in a car crash and almost dies. She should have died. But she doesn't because Dank saves her.

It turns out Dank isn't a soul. He's a Deity. The Deity of Death. Pagan was supposed to die, she was fated to but he saved her and there must be consequences to follow his actions. Dank enrolls at her school to protect her from strong and dangerous forces and she begins to develop feelings for him, the Deity of Death.

Whilst trying to manage her building attraction for Dank she tries to make her relationship with Leif work unknown that there is more than on power after her soul. Will Dank succeed in keeping her safe?
He is forced to leave her all alone to protect her. But no one is there to protect her from herself. How can she survive without the one being she knows she loves with her whole soul? When she finds out she has the power to save him at her expense what will she do?

This book is absolutely fantastic! It is one of my all time favorites I can read it over and over again without getting bored. Every page had me on edge, I couldn't wait to read whatever was on the next page. This book inspired such great emotion in me and I felt completely bonded to the characters as if I knew them. 5 star rating from me!!!

Read the other books in this trilogy, Predestined and Ceaseless!

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Beatrice Prior is in Abnegation, one of the five factions which were created by the city's founders to prevent another war. Abnegation, Beatrice's present faction values selflessness above all other things and repel vanity, because they're selfless they are in charge of the government. Erudite value knowledge, they create all the technology and medicine. Dauntless are their protectors, they show no fear of anything and are called crazy because they seem blind to danger. Candor value honesty, they tell even the harshest of truths leaving no hidden secrets. Amity are all about love, they're always happy and hugging one another, they take care of the crops and plant life. However there is also the faction-less, the ones that don't fit into any faction.

When a child reaches the age of sixteen they take an aptitude test which results in them finding out which faction is best for them and then at the "Choosing Ceremony" they decide if they stay in their original faction or move into another and leave behind their family forever because there is a saying "Faction Before Blood" which is taken very seriously. If the faction you choose believes you are not truly loyal then you will become faction-less.

When Beatrice goes for her test she is given an injection which opens up her mind to find out which faction she is best suited for. But her test does not go as it should. Her results are inconclusive meaning she is divergent. Divergents are feared greatly by the government because they cannot be placed in any faction meaning they cannot be controlled and so they are killed on sight. Beatrice is told she cannot tell anyone what she is and must trust in herself to know what faction she belongs to.

Beatrice tells no one of her results when she goes home and thinks on her decision. The next day her and her parents along with her brother Caleb walk to the Hub and take their seats. Beatrice is still unsure of her decision when it is her brother's turn to choose, of course she believes he will choose Abnegation as he was always brilliant at being selfless. She is shocked and hurt when her brother chooses Erudite which happens to be the enemy faction of Abnegation. It is Beatrice's choice next and she is almost absolutely certain of which faction she will choose, she cannot put her parents through the pain losing their only other child. But at the last moment she changes her mind and chooses Dauntless.

However that isn't were it ends. Each new members of every faction has to go through initiation to prove they actually belong in the faction they have chosen. If they fail their initiation then they become faction-less. Beatrice changes her name to Tris, a new name for a new life, she must leave her old life behind.

Tris along with other transfers has to go through many dangerous and painful tests to prove themselves worthy, there is no room for error. This is more difficult for Tris as she can't allow people to find out that she's Divergent. Whilst Tris is trying to survive she gets to know the mysterious "Four" and discovers a dangerous plot that involves Erudite.

Will Tris survive Dauntless and will she uncover what Erudite is planning?

Find out and read Divergent, the first book in the thrilling trilogy!

I recommend that you definitely read this book, it is a thrilling read and kept me on the edge of my seat right up until the last page. It's brilliantly written by a very gifted author, I loved it!
