The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

This book is 100% awesomeness. You remember the tale of Pandora's Box and all the horrid things that were locked inside it? Well they play a BIG part in this series. We're all told that Demons are just evil with no goodness whatsoever. This book makes me question that. There are times when a demon is protective and possessive and personally I'm pretty sure that them being evil is supposed to exclude protectiveness and possessiveness so they can't all possibly be evil.

Not only are they capable of protectiveness but they are also capable of love. A demon that feels love, that in my opinion is wicked cool. I read this book and then I re-read it again. And again. And again. And you get my drift. If sexy protective demon-possessed warriors who will do anything to protect the woman they love the most appeal to you then this is soooooo the book for you.

I'll tell you a little about it...

So Maddox is a warrior. Possessed by the demon of Violence. Him along with fellow possessed-warriors are looking for Pandora's Box. One night he comes into contact with Ashlyn, a strange mortal woman with a gift. She can hear voices. Unless she's around Maddox, then she hears blissful silence.

Maddox believes Ashlyn is bait, something to lure him and other warriors astray so that hunters can kill them. Hunters are humans who know of their existence and are trying to exterminate them. Ashlyn of course has no idea what he is talking about.

Ashlyn is treated with suspicion and is not treated fairly. She consumes some Ambrosia which is deadly to humans and almost dies. When Maddox finds Ashlyn on the verge of death he realises his strong feelings for her are more than just chemistry. He wants her. He needs her.

As they fall in love, something comes to light. Maybe Ashlyn did not meet Maddox by coincidence. As things begin to unfold a new danger comes to light, threatening to take Ashlyn from Maddox once again. Can he protect her or will he lose the one thing that's precious to him?

Read The Darkest Night, the first book in the Lord of the Underworld series. It's worth the read.
